Metrotown Downtown Plan Update
The City has embarked on a planning process to update the Community Plan for Metrotown. This update process provides the opportunity to create a true downtown for Burnaby; one that enables the highest order of land use and development supported by social, recreation, entertainment, and cultural amenities important to all of Burnaby’s residents, businesses and employees.
The first phase of this planning process commenced with the adoption of a Council report on May 9, 2016. The report outlined the preliminary vision, principles, and land use framework to be used as a basis for public input. The first phase of the public input process was undertaken between May 28, 2016 and August 31, 2016. During this time, staff consulted with over 1,800 people and received over 200 public input surveys – thank you for your participation!
The second phase of this planning process has now commenced with the adoption of the Council Report on November 21, 2016. The report summarizes the input from the first phase; conveys the Draft Metrotown Downtown Plan which will be used as a basis to receive further public input; and, outlines the next steps in the Plan update process. This second phase of the public input process is scheduled to be undertaken between November 22, 2016 and February 1, 2017.
